Summer Camp
Baltimore Fencing Center runs week-long summer camps aimed at both beginners and experienced fencers. Each camp runs from Monday through Friday and will be conducted by Baltimore Fencing Center’s professional coaches. Special guest coaches also often drop by competitive camps. Child care services are available before and after camps to help accommodate your busy schedule.
Beginner’s Camp
Our Beginner’s Camp focuses on introducing children who are new to the sport of fencing the fundamentals: footwork, bladework, and other coordination mechanics. The curriculum provides each student with fencing instruction in a class setting, as well as conditioning exercises and games designed to develop critical thinking and cooperation. Students will also watch movies with overt fencing themes, like The Princes Bride, The Three Musketeers, and other classic swashbuckling movies. The objective of the Beginner’s Camp is to provide an overview to the sport of fencing, without spending too much time mired in competitive training. Each camp has two snack breaks, with snacks provided by BFC, as well as one lunch break. Students are responsible for providing their own lunch. Students in the Beginner’s Camps are not allowed to leave the facility during the camp, so lunches must be brought!
Competitive Camp
Our Competitive Camp offers fencers with at least three months of continuous experience an opportunity to improve their fencing skills. The focus of the Competitive Camp is on physical conditioning, and intermediate and advanced level techniques. Students will spend the majority of their time training on precision mechanics and strategic concepts. Some time will be devoted to critical thinking games. Each camp has two snack breaks, with snacks provided by BFC, as well as one lunch break. Students are responsible for providing their own lunch. Students in the Competitive Camps may leave the facility during lunch break to purchase lunch, but may only do so with parental approval. BFC is not responsible for students who leave the facility during the lunch break.
Nationals Warm-up Camp
Baltimore Fencing Center runs a Nationals Warm-up camp every year a week before the Summer Nationals. This camp is designed to provide a “study guide” to fencers who will be going to Summer Nationals. The camp is a more rigorous version of our Competitive Camp, with additional emphasis on mental conditioning for the Nationals environment. Many of these mental conditioning skills may also be applied to the Junior Olympic Championships and for local events.
